February Update

A lot of exciting things happened this past month! The month was pretty busy with Winter Camp and the start of the spring semester, but it was an exciting kick off for the beginning of the year.

Thank you for all of your prayers for Winter Camp! We had several students from SMU come and they all enjoyed the camp and learned a lot. One of the most impactful things for me and a lot other people at camp was something that Jessica Mumley (one of our guest speakers from a campus ministry in Washington) shared during her sermon. She said that sometimes when we have trouble viewing ourselves through the lens of God, we need to ask ourselves, "Who told me that?". She said that there is a danger in being own conversation partners and that shame stems from viewing ourselves and God through the wrong lens. We need to let God tell us the facts. I thought this was so impactful because it is something that has or will affect everyone and I think this will be so helpful for everyone to remember as we minister to the people around us. I encourage you to listen to both Geoff (Jessica's husband) and Jessica's sermons because even though they are targeted towards college students, they are rooted in the truth of Jesus and that is valuable to everyone. Here is a link to their sermons.

With the start of the semester, we had two outreach events at SMU, Coffeehouse and Worship Night. We had a Coffeehouse event at the beginning of last semester and it was one of our most successful events to date. This time around, although we didn't meet any new people, we still had a lot of fun, our students really enjoyed the event, and it was fun to hear our friends perform.

Last week we had our worship night and we met so many new people! One of our students, Candice, even invited one of her professors and she came! Candice is actually featured in the student testimony this month. It was encouraging to meet that many new people because I wasn't expecting it at all. Our students have already done such a good job of taking the theme of "Send Me" to heart in stretching themselves to grow in living more outreaching lives and being intentional with the people around them. I am excited to see how God is going to work through them this upcoming semester!

  1. Dawn I am so encouraged by that SMU picture from camp. It is crazy to see how God has been at work to grow His kingdom and this student ministry across so many campuses. Thanks for being a part of what He's doing and reaching out to that campus. Love you!
